Carter: 22 months. Clover: 4 months.
Carter had his first 2 trips to the ER this weekend. Not really the way we wanted to end 2010 but thankfully, he is okay.
Friday night- we took him to the ER for severe abdominal pain. He was screaming & clutching at me for nearly an hour before I drove him in. He's had horrible diarrhea for several days & we were both concerned about appendicitis. Turns out- they did an abdominal series & some investigating/tests.... only to conclude that he has a great deal of swelling & gas in his intestines. Solution: mylicon & motrin. So far- all stool testing has come back negative.
Saturday was a different story... not as simple, unfortunately. Carter ate a cashew and was rushed to the ER when his lips started to swell. On the way there- he also threw up & welts started to form all over his body. When he got to the hospital- his oxygen status had already started to decline. After he received several shots & medications..... his poor little body adjusted itself and within 3-4 hours, he appeared to be mostly normal again. The greatest reaction took place with his skin. By the time I arrived at the ER (I had to leave work).... his skin was bright red ALL OVER. His face was swollen, he had welts & raised areas all over his back and arms, and he was pretty well out of it thanks to the big doses of benadryl.
After a few hours of observation in the ER- we were sent home with what seems like a small pharmacy of medications & strict instructions to not feed him anything with nuts or peanut oil in it's ingredients. It turns out that raising a small boy who is allergic to nuts is interesting & we have already thrown out several things in the pantry as not to accidentally give him anything that could potentially kill him.
We now have to carry an epinephrine pen with us everywhere we go and need to be extremely cautious & close to an ER until we can get him into see an allergist.
What a way to end the year!
But here's to 2011..... and we have already determined that it will be the best year of our lives thus far. We have so much to be thankful for! Thank you for following along on the blog this past year with us.... and for appreciating our little journey. This year- I have several resolutions.... one which consists of putting together an album that I've already started called "Photobooth Fridays".
Our computer has an application on it called Photo Booth that takes pictures of us with the camera built into the computer monitor. Every Friday- we're going to take some pictures with Photo Booth & compile those images, throughout the year, into an album. The pictures that we take with the computer camera are not incredible by any means- but they're fun to take & the babies love to see themselves on the computer screen. I'm so excited to see this little album come together throughout the year. :)
Lots to look forward to in 2011. We hope that whoever reads this has high hopes for the new year as well.....
